How To Balance Life: A Guide for Working Moms

Life is busy enough when you are a mom, but when you throw work into the mix, things can become overwhelming pretty quickly (I know because I've been doing this working mom thing for almost 3 years!).

The good news is there are some strategies that can help you achieve a better balance in life! Today, I'm sharing with you some tips that I've learned along the way. Keep reading to find out what they are.

Be more present

In the wise words of Ram Dass, being in the moment can add a great deal of value to what you are doing, as well as reduce a lot of stress.

Of course, the problem is that as a busy mom, it can be very difficult not to be thinking about all the other things that we should be doing. For example, when it comes time to work, many of us are thinking of the tasks we need to complete at home like the massive pile of laundry! However, when we are at home and have the opportunity to spend time with the kids and our SO, we are mentally not present, choosing to worry about that report for work instead.

Indeed, it can feel as if we do not have any control over the thoughts that our brains bring us. This is even true to a certain extent, although we can choose whether to let them carry us away and out of the present moment or to dismiss them and focus on what matters right now.

Lighten your load

Sometimes as busy working moms we just have too much on our plate. Unfortunately, as the matriarch of the family, we often feel responsible for everybody else's well-being including that of our kids, husband, and parents.

But, it is worth remembering that we matter too. Indeed, not only should we take care of our own needs because we are worth it, but if we get so exhausted and run down that we cannot do anything, those that rely on us will suffer as well.

With that in mind, sometimes it can be very wise to lighten our load, whether this means finding a trusted daycare provider for the kids or even using a care company like Visiting Angels to look after aging parents. Indeed, care of loved ones can be highly physically and mentally draining, and by having someone else shoulder the burden for a while we can regain precious time and energy.

Embrace being organized

Ok, so I know that sometimes being organized can feel a bit stuffy and boring. However, you don't have to schedule your family's life down to every last moment. Instead think about getting organized, as knowing where to direct your energy, something that means you don't end up wasting it on things that don't really matter to you.

One of the best and most simple ways that busy moms can get organized is to invest in a hard copy planner. There are plenty of fun options on the market to choose from too including the Happy Planner, and the Erin Condren.

Such planners are particularly useful because they allow you to keep on top of what needs to happen when, both concerning the family and work. They also allow busy moms to schedule certain tasks and jobs, which can help ensure they make time for themselves, and that they don't need to worry about tasks that need to be done in the future because they have already decided on a time when they will be done.
