How To Get PR Packages as an Influencer
I received this question when I briefly talked about PR packages in my stories. Just want to share my thoughts and personal experience with it here with you all as well.
HOW DO PEOPLE GET PR PACKAGES?
There are two ways: it’s either the brand/agency reaches out, or the influencer reaches out. I’ve experienced both. I should also mention that there’s no guarantee whether you’ll be receiving packages from these brands regularly. I usually know I’m on a PR list when I receive packages out of the blue. haha. I probably should have a system for keeping track of this but I only have a handful of brands that send me gifts so I’m not so pressed about it.
HOW DO I GET THE BRANDS I LOVE AND SUPPORT TO NOTICE ME?
One great way to get noticed by the brands you love and want to represent is to buy their stuff. They're more likely to build a relationship with you because they already know you're a fan and an actual consumer. :) Always tag them in your posts so when you do eventually send your pitch to be on their PR list, if they haven't noticed you already, there’s proof of how much you love them by showing previous posts. :)
If it's a brand you just really want to try out for the first time, just prepare a good story for them. Why should they give you products? Why are you a good fit? What will they benefit from you? :)
SHOULD YOU DISCLOSE YOUR PR PACKAGES?
Yes! Always! Influencers must disclose whether a product/service was gifted to them when they post on social media. Simply add “gifted” or “thank you for sending these for me to try” disclaimers when posting.
ARE YOU SUPPOSED TO DO UNBOXINGS FOR PR PACKAGES?
Short answer: no. PR packages are pretty much gifts which requires NO obligations to post, because once they ask you to post about them, it becomes a sponsored post. BUT personally, I try to share my packages to show appreciation to the brands that took the time to send me stuff to try out. This can be in a form of a quick unboxing on IG stories/IGTV/Reels, a mention in my post, or a short review on my blog, etc.
